NUFC defender reveals what he’s noticed about Joelinton after coming up against him in training

Ciaran Clark has revealed that Joelinton has looked ‘good with the ball’ and a ‘real presence’ up top after playing against him in training over the past few days.

The Irish international also states that he’s ‘fitting in really well’ following his £40m move from Hoffenheim earlier this week, saying he’s getting on well with his new teammates.

This comes after he made his appearance as a Newcastle player against Preston yesterday, with him winning a penalty at one end and conceding one at the other, showing some neat turns and touches in between.

Here’s what Clark’s had to say about the Brazilian, revealing how he’s a ‘physical lad’ but also good technically:

“He’s a big physical lad and from what we’ve seen; he’s good with the ball & a real presence up there.

“It’s early days but hopefully he can do his best and give his all – that is all the manager will want.

“It’s always nice to fresh faces come in & it does give the lads a boost – it’s exciting to see players come in and getting to know them.”

‘He’s fitting in really well, and spoken to a lot of the lads – and we’re making him feel really part of it,’

It’s great to hear that he’s impressing in training and showing the likes of Clark just why we paid big to sign the 22-year-old talent, however it’s equally encouraging to hear how well he’s fitting in.

Considering he’s still very young and doesn’t speak a great deal of English, it’s essential that he settles in quickly – especially when he’ll be playing in a completely new league next season, with the pressure of being our new number 9 and ‘club record’ signing on his back.
