According to Sky Sports, Newcastle ‘target’ Jarrod Bowen is now on his way to sign for West Ham.
It looked like Crystal Palace were closing in on a deal yesterday, with it reported that they’d agreed a £16m deal, however it’s now emerged that West Ham have won the race after offering Hull City £20m.
Sky Sports claim a deal was struck overnight and that he’s now on his way to London to complete his medical after agreeing personal terms:
Jarrod Bowen is travelling to London for a medical with West Ham ahead of a £20m move from Hull.
The two clubs agreed a deal overnight on Thursday and personal terms have already been agreed.
Crystal Palace – who were Bowen’s initial preferred destination – are now concentrating on other targets.
The Eagles had been in talks to sign the 23-year-old for a deal worth £16m plus add-ons, with Newcastle and a host of Championship clubs also interested.
Elsewhere, the Athletic claim it’s a £18m move with £4m to be paid in add ons, but either way this feels like a deal we’ll live to regret missing out on.
The worst part is, it seems we just never made a bid – so didn’t even give the player a decision to make when a few Premier League clubs arrived on the scene late in the day.
It may prove a wise decision in the end, but a 23-year-old English talent available or £20m after scoring 38 goals in the last 18 months seems like a bargain in today’s market – especially when we’re crying out for a goal scorer.
