Only ONE Premier League player outside the ‘big 6’ has been dribbled past less than Jamaal Lascelles this season.
This comes from brilliant Twitter page ‘The Other 14‘, which focuses on players outside of Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham.
According to their stats, Lascelles has only been dribbled past THREE times all season – with Villa star Tyrone Mings being the only player outside the big 6 to better him in this department, having been beaten just once:
You could argue that this is due to the fact he plays in the middle of a back three, so is rarely pulled out wide and ran at by pacey wide men, but it’s still an impressive stat, showing the athletic centre-half is rarely beaten.
He doesn’t get much credit for this, however I’ve always thought he’s deceptively quick when he gets going – and the fact he’s been dribbled past just 3 times all season suggests few do beat him in one-on-one ground duels.
Hopefully this shows on Saturday and it pays dividends, with him likely to be slightly more exposed if we do revert to a four-man defence against Burnley.
