According to the Sunday Times’ Duncan Castles, Newcastle United have put another offer on the table for Lille star Boubakary Soumare.
This comes from his latest ‘Transfer Window podcast’ on Wednesday night (listen to it here), seeing him claim on that our latest ‘offer’ on the table for the highly-rated Frenchman, who we tried and failed to sign in January, is €40m (£35m).
I take this with a pinch of salt in the current climate – based on both the financial impact of COVID-19 and the ongoing takeover uncertainty – however Castles does claim our latest proposal sees us offer LESS than we did a few months ago. .
Here’s what he’s had to say, also confirming that the 21-year-old is on Liverpool’s radar:
“Newcastle United have again made an offer for Soumare, for the summer window whenever that may open.
“I’m told the offer is 40million Euros – not as high as they offered in January – but I think that is going to be something we see in the next transfer window because there is less money in the game.
“Liverpool have been watching the player for two years and rate him highly and have been in contact with the player’s representatives to do their due diligence.”
The fact he mentions Liverpool’s interest probably explains why he rejected a move to Tyneside in January – and I suspect he will once again this summer if such clubs are genuinely in the mix for his signature.
It’s clear our interest in Soumare is genuine, but have we really put another multi-million pound offer on the table in a period where we can’t even pay our own staff? I’m not so sure..
It is very good
