We all want a Saudi takeover, but I can’t believe what I’ve just read from some NUFC fans..

This afternoon, the widow of murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi has released the statement she’s now sent to the Premier League, urging them to reconsider in light of a potential Saudi-backed takeover at St James’ Park.

You may be wondering ‘why is this relevant?’, however Saudi PIF chief Mohammed Bin Salman has long since been accused of making the order for Khashoggi’s assassination in 2018.

It’s a serious matter and hugely sensitive subject for Hatice Cengiz – Khashoggi’s grieving widow – yet some of the responses I’ve seen from Newcastle fans in reaction to her latest tweet (which includes the statement she’s sent to the Premier League) are absolutely disgusting and inhumane.

Sorry for your loss pet, now shove off“….”Keep on moaning, he’ll get what he wants” are a few of many examples, along with groups mocking her for the odd spelling error. I mean come on..

If you’re a Newcastle fan slating a grieving woman seeking justice all because you’re scared of her impacting a Newcastle United takeover, you need to take a serious look at yourself and think before you type.

This isn’t an anti-Newcastle article, so please don’t call me an undercover Mackem or suggest I’m supporting the derailment of a takeover by defending her.

We all want this takeover to happen, but if you let your desperation for a deal cloud your judgement on such a sensitive matter then you can’t complain about the criticism we’ll face should this Saudi-backed deal go through.

One thing that must be said is that those who are responding awfully to the above post do NOT represent your every day Newcastle United fan. Sadly, though, there’s idiots in every fanbase and Twitter gives so many the perfect platform to show their true colours with no repercussions.

The worst part of it is how disgusting it is to see our own fans reacting so inhumanely, but the knock-on effect of how it makes us look as a fanbase is also infuriating.

I don’t think it will stop the takeover – and I don’t think it should based on my belief that so many Billionaire owners in the Premier League will have their own dirty laundry if the Premier League decided to dig deep enough – but we’re not going to come out of this looking good if we don’t even bother listen to the issues being raised surrounding the Saudis.

If you want to rant at Richard Keys and BeIN Sports for their last ditch efforts to block this deal – that’s great – but the siege mentality against serious and sensitive issues that are rightfully being brought up needs to stop.

Aussie – I’m not being confrontational with you there by the way mate, never have been before so please don’t read it that way – I’m just asking a question

    Hey Sharpy
    All good mate.
I am not turning my back on the club. I have always held what i like to call a more rational view of Ashleys reign. My beef is with the self righteous Ashley haters. They seem happy to accept what ever sins the new owners bring with them as long as Ashley is gone. I have been on this blog since day one and I find it laughable at how easily the sins of the potential new owners are washed over.
I don’t class you as one of those fans mate. You have always has more balanced than most fans.

Aussie – thanks mate, but I think you’re being a little unfair.

Just because people are excited about the prospect of investment in the club, that because automatically mean they are comfortable about what the Saudis have done – I don’t think it’s as straight forward as that.
I’ve not once read anyone make comments like ‘I don’t care what they have done if they bring us trophies.

I honestly think most people’s comments come from a place of firstly love for the club, secondly the prospect of getting rid of Ashley – but never an acceptance of they methods of ‘justice’. (There will be the odd moron who will say it for attention or whatever but what can you do with gobsh!tes other than ignore them.

I disagree Sharpy, although I don’t post very often on here I do check most blogs and news forums to keep up with happenings. It seems that pretty much that anyone could buy the club and no one would care who it was as long as Ashley is gone. The desperation for Ashley to fxck off is pretty much the most important thing right now.

    Timo Werner

Aussie – I agree the prospect of getting rid of Ashley has everyone giddy. But I for a second believe that any Newcastle fan worth their salt would condone the Saudi methods mate.

  19. Aussie – let me be honest with you. I really don’t care that the Saudi’s could well own the club. Do I think their culture and society is wrong? Yes of course. Do I think just ostracising them and not letting them buy anything from us or invest their money in our country would make a difference? Absolute not! They’d go to another country. The closer they are to us the more chance we have of influencing them.

Saudi Arabia are trying to moderate their society. Allowing woman to drive sounds ridiculous to us but it’s a big thing for them. Same with allowing them in football matches, theatres and cinemas. It’s not possible to do it all at once.

Most States in the US have the death penalty. Some people think that’s unpalatable. Yet they don’t feel uncomfortable selling or buying from the States.

All about balance and in balance I’m not about telling countries how they should live. I want them included in the world so we can influence them without forcing them.

Plus if it means we compete, have better players, get investment into the city, feel like a football club again and enjoy it – quite frankly – I don’t give a fuk!

Have to agree to disagree on this one mate. I am looking forward to a brighter future football wise (hopefully). But these new guys are ethically worse than Ashley. They just have deeper pockets and that seems to make every ok.

Stuart, I couldn’t agree more mate. I am calling out the hypothetical bastards that have callef Ashley a monster for getting free advertising.etc…Where is that outrage now? As you say, it seems like no one gives a fuxk as long as the money flows. Christ we used to hear about his sweat shops ffs. The cheapness of the Puma kits was Ashleys fault as well.
And all it really was that he didn’t spend enough money it seems.

Eric – you are by passing 2 or 3 seasons of Chelsea and Man City establishing themselves as top 4 sides first though mate.

Aguero didn’t come in straight away. They had players like Adebayor and Robinho in long before Aguero.
Chelsea had players like Kezman and Mutu long before Drogba.

We have to build and take steps over into those top 6 spots regularly before attracting the types of players you are talking about.

If the Saudi plan is to just come in about spend huge on fees and wages, I don’t really want that.

I want them to invest and develop. Improve facilities and build the club. Not just throwing money around coz they can.

Don’t confuse how the fans feel like they have been treated by Ashley with how he has actually treated them . Many would hold him responsible for their pies not being warm enough during the half time break. He has become an evil pantomime figure responsible for how depressed every fan feels.

  35. Whilst the Saudi regime may be worse than Ashley, it’s Ashley who is selling the club to them not the fans.
Money talks and he would sell us to the devil if he could make a profit. I for one am glad he might be going. Hate him, not for not spending money but for having zero ambition for us and using us to grow his tat shops and not selling sooner once he realised he couldn’t make us competitive.
For treating KK like a chump, lying to the fans, lying to Shearer, sacking Hoots, ditching shearers bar, getting rid of good honest players who got us promoted because they dared to speak out, selling AC in his prime , disrespecting Rafa and being a general c***.

      (Quote)

  36. I hope Stu is right. I hope this is just part of a move to develop their own culture and improve the human rights in their Country. I’m not saying the West get it right all the time, not at all. Racism, homophobia, modern day slavery, child exploitation – all of these horrific things still happen in the West, but I think we have a better grip on what is socially acceptable and how we tackle and punish breaches. I know that the Saudis send their police force to the UK for training and specifically around things like domestic incidents, evidence gathering and building case files. Them integrating more with the West can only be a good thing I would have thought.

I’m certain beyond any doubt that if they said, we’ll spend £200m every window, but we want to ban all women from SJP, we wouldn’t accept that for a second.

So I don’t see their culture creating into ours.

If they can develop and improve our football club, then great. If they come in and invest in the NE then even better, coz our own government has done very little to inject any kind of prosperity into the region.
