Almiron’s dad responds to exit rumours & talk of £30m Atletico Madrid move – Someone’s lying…

Miguel Almiron’s father has played down claims that his son has received interest from Atletico Madrid, saying it’s nothing more than a ‘rumours from the Spanish press’.

He denies any contact, insisting last week’s report claiming a £30m bid could tempt him away from Tyneside is false, however his comments don’t quite marry up with what the players agent was saying a few days ago.

Why? Because Daniel Campos (Almiron’s agent) was quoted just last Thursday saying he’d been ‘in contact’ with Atleti’s director, saying the Paraguayan has been on the La Liga giants’ radar for some time.

Nevertheless, here’s what the 25-year-old father has had to say when speaking on 970 AM radio station today:

“There is nothing from Atlético Madrid’

“Nobody has contacted him.

“It’s a rumour from the Spanish press.”

So, someone’s lying?

Either his father isn’t aware (which I find hard to believe) or his agent is running his mouth to try and generate potential interest. I’d like to bet the latter given what modern day agents are like!

Here’s a reminder of what Almiron’s agent Daniel Campos said last week:

“We are in contact with the people of Atleti, with the director but nothing official.

“Even before his departure for Newcastle, he was already under the radar at the club.

“The quickness of social media allows for a long of things that aren’t true. It does not shock me that Miguel is in the interest of various big teams.”

“The truth is everything is a field of assumptions. We have to see if NUFC wants to negotiate a departure. Miguel’s release clause is high.”

“Miguel is a player that fits perfectly in Simeone’s system.”

Let’s hope this is a classic case of his agent trying to drum up interest (or push for a better contract as a result) and that his Dad is the one telling the truth here.
