Some big claims have emerged from Sky Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio in the last few moments, with him reporting that we look set to sign Brazilian left-back Rogerio for €14m (£12.5m).
He claims that a deal for the Sassuolo star is ‘almost done’, suggesting it is the 22-year-old talent who will solve the club’s long-awaited search for a new left-back and complete a move to St James’ Park this summer.
Here’s what Di Marzio – Sky Sports’ Italian correspondent – tweeted in the last few moments, along with a snippet from his latest piece on the deal:
‘Rogerio is just steps away from a move to Newcastle: the Sassuolo left back is set to complete a transfer to the Premier League club for a €14m fee.
‘Negotiations are nearly complete, and the deal will be finalised after Newcastle had interest for some time in the player.
‘The clubs are finalising the last details at the moment, the deal is moving forward and is set for a positive conclusion.’
Interestingly, The Athletic’s Chris Waugh said Rogerio was the club’s leading left-back target in a recent podcast, but said the club had been reluctant to pay his asking price – which was said to be in excess of £10m at the time.
The former Juventus youngster has played for Brazil at U-17 and U-20 levels and bagged a goal and an assist in 15 appearances fro Sassuolo across 2019/20.
Have we finally agreed to sign a left-back on a permanent deal? Time will tell, but these are some big claims coming from Sky Italy!
