NUFC eyeing January move for Chelsea talent who’s now available to sign on loan – Report

The Northern Echo report that Mike Ashley will limit Steve Bruce to loan signings in January, due to the financial impact of COVID-19 and the ongoing legal battle against the Premier League.

Not exactly what we wanted to hear, however the report does name one player we’re showing interested in after being made available – and that’s Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori.

The centre-back was linked briefly over the summer but looked set to join Everton on loan instead, only for that deal to collapse and Ancelotti to signs Norwich’s Ben Godfrey instead.

Several months later, the 21-year-old England international has only made one Premier League appearance this season, struggling for game time following Thiago Silva’s arrival, and will be leaving on loan in the new year.

The Northern Echo then claim he’s been seen as a player who could ‘provide competition’ to our current crop of centre-halves, with Bruce clearly keen to sign another.

This may not seem like a priority, but we did try and fail to bring in Arsenal’s Rob Holding over the summer after allowing Florian Lejeune to join Alaves.

I’d be happy to have him and feel like his pace and ball-playing ability would add something different to our backline, however I do feel a dynamic, powerful, box-to-box midfielder and striker should be our priorities before we bring in another centre halve.

Thoughts?

  1. He wouldn’t be our player, and wouldn’t be a loan to buy signing so why bother?!.

Bring Lejuene back or bring Watt back and develop him rather than someone else’s player.
