It could be argued that the biggest game of Newcastle United’s season takes place on Tuesday evening, as a place in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup is up for grabs. The Toon will come up against Championship side Brentford in the clash, and fans will be optimistic that the Magpies will have the quality needed to get through against the side that narrowly missed out on automatic promotion last season.
However, there remains quality in the Brentford squad despite the Bees losing Ollie Watkins and Said Benrama over the summer. Newcastle will go into the game as the favourites to get the win with sites such as onlinecasinosnoop.com, but these are some of the players that Steve Bruce’s side will need to keep under wraps on Tuesday night if they are to get through to the semi-finals.
Ivan Toney
There were questions asked when Brentford decided to pay £5 million for League One striker Ivan Toney in the summer transfer window. However, he has quickly adapted to life in the Championship. The 24-year-old will be a player that Newcastle fans will already be aware of, as he was signed by the club in the summer of 2015. He wasn’t exactly given a chance by the Magpies during his spell with the club and was eventually signed by Peterborough.
That move has been excellent for the player, as he scored 16 goals in 44 games in his first season in League One. He went on to better that tally in his second season with the Posh as he scored 24 goals in 32 games. There is no doubt that this season has been his best to date, as he has already scored 15 goals in 18 Championship games.
Josh Dasilva
Josh Dasilva was one of the standout players for Brentford in the Championship in 2019-20, and it was a little surprising that no Premier League side tried to make a move for the 22-year-old. Dasilva is a product of the Arsenal academy, but has made a fine career for himself since moving to Brentford on a permanent deal. He has played 77 games so far for the Bees and has scored 13 goals. He is your typical box-to-box midfielder and will attempt to dictate the pace of the game against the Magpies.
Newcastle cannot afford Dasilva to gain control of the midfield, as that will be an immediately key to the game on Tuesday night. Dasilva will be the link to the forward players, and Newcastle must cut that threat out at the source.
Marcus Forss
A name that Newcastle fans will be hoping to avoid seeing from the bench will be Marcus Forss, as the Finnish player has been the super sub for the Bees so far this season. The 21-year-old has only started five games in all competitions this season and has scored seven goals.
He has come off the bench on 14 occasions so far this campaign, and has been the player that Thomas Frank has called upon to change the game. The Magpies will need to be aware of his threat and avoid any mishaps in the final third of the game should the Bees call upon their secret weapon from the bench in the EFL Cup quarterfinals.
