Transfer U-turn on the cards as Steve Bruce drops new DeAndre Yedlin hint?

Steve Bruce has praised DeAndre Yedlin ahead of our clash with Leicester City – handing the full back a surprise lifeline as he enters the final six months of his contract.

American outlet CBS Sports reported on Thursday that there is interest from Turkey, with Trabzonspor said to have made the USA international an offer.

Yedlin looked almost certain to leave at the end of the season (if not this month) and was an outcast in the Newcastle squad until recent weeks – where he has started our last four games including one of his best displays in years against current champions Liverpool.

Now, Steve Bruce has said this ahead of today’s showdown with the Foxes, suggesting he may still have a future at St James’ Park:

“I have been absolutely delighted because he has come in from the cold after the problems that Javier Manquillo has had.

“He has grasped the opportunity.

“If you train well and work hard then the opportunity comes your way you can grasp it.

“I am sure there have been times when his future at Newcastle looked to be not here.

We have three recognised right-backs/wing-backs with Jacob Murphy into the mix too.

“We have competition so I could not be more pleased.

He’s given us a glimpse of what he can do, and I am delighted for him.”

Yedlin put in a real shift against Liverpool, looking switched on throughout and earning some rare praise on social media as a result.

He was also steady at Man City, however a few good performances does not nail down his position as a long term starter, with right back still a position we should be looking to improve on . We have plenty of depth in Manquillo, Krafth, Yedlin and Murphy but not stand out option for me.

Who knows though. A consistent run of form from the Yank could sway opinion in his favour and would place him as the latest unlikely hero that we have had on Tyneside in recent times.

Let’s hope he can build on this with another solid showing against the Foxes today!
