Sky Sports report that Newcastle are closing in on a deadline day loan move for Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock.
Keith Downie has confirmed that we have made an official approach for the highly-rated England U-21 international, while Pete Graves states the deal is ‘gathering pace’, with ‘talks advancing’ between the two clubs today.
Interestingly, Willock can qualify as an ‘U-23 player’ not needing to be added into Bruce’s official 25-man squad, meaning we could be able to make TWO signings today if Yedlin seals a move to Galatasaray.
This makes sense after The Telegraph reported this morning that Bruce was pushing to secure both Willock AND Leicester’s Hamza Choudhury on loan deals today, and their man Luke Edwards now reports that the former is ‘edging closer’ to a deadline day move to St James’ Park.
He also states that Mikel Arteta believes Newcastle would be the ‘ideal’ move for the 21-year-old talent, suggesting Arsenal are all for it.
Willock has three goals and three assists in 16 appearances for Arsenal this season, with the 6ft 1′ midfielder also representing England at U16, U19, U20 and U21 level.
A real talent who is not only able to play anywhere in midfield but a player who could offer the sort of dynamism our engine room has lacked this season.
