Back in November, our very own Florian Lejeune put in a man of the match display in a 1-1 draw with Barcelona – producing a stunning goal-line clearance to deny none other than Lionel Messi.
A few months later, it’s fair to say the Frenchman could do nothing to stop the electric Argentine, with him scoring two stunners in a 5-1 win over Alaves at the Nou Camp.
As you can see below, the Newcastle United loanee was a spectator as Messi fired home from range not once but twice – also getting in behind the centre-back moments before Francisco Trincao tapped in to make it 3-1.
Watch the goals below, including an incredible finish from the world’s best player just after the one-minute mark:
Here’s what Steve Bruce has had to say about Lejeune last month – a player we could do with having back given the recent injury to Fabian Schar!
“The purpose of it was for him to go and play for the season.
“He’s playing, week in, week out.
“Of course, we’re kept updated on him.
“It’d be nice for Shola (Ameobi), our loans manager, to go and see him, but obviously in the current climate he can’t.”
“The feedback has been good; he’s fit & he’s healthy, which is the most important thing.
“So, I think it’s important the kid still plays the games.”

Cheap shot Olly.
Having a go at a manager supporting one of his players going out on loan against the best player in the world.
Though you were better than that.
