The Scottish international was brought back into the fold by Steve Bruce and he helped create Joe Willock’s dramatic late strike by punting the ball into the box for Joelinton to tee up the midfielder.

Ritchie’s reaction was typical of the angry competitor we have grown to know and love across his four-and-a-half years on Tyneside, as he celebrated how every Toon fan probably did while watching on their settee!
Linked with a move to Bournemouth and involved in a behind the scenes bust-up with Bruce, it had looked like his time on Tyneside was all but over, however it was good to see him back to something close to his best in Sunday’s 2-2 draw.
His time as a Premier League player may be nearing an end, but he does have the sort of work rate and intensity that every side needs when embroiled in a relegation scrap!
