New report names Mike Ashley’s top target should Steve Bruce leave Newcastle United

Mike Ashley will make Burnley boss Sean Dyche his top target should Steve Bruce leave the club this summer, according to the Sunday Mirror.

Despite winning Premier League manager of the month for April, many supporters remain hostile towards Bruce, who has just one year left on his current deal.

As for Bruce’s future, Ashley seems unlikely to sack a man who has kept us up comfortably in the end, however there’s been more than one report – one from The Times and another from The Telegraph – suggesting he could yet walk if things turn nasty when fans return to St James’ Park.

Burnley boss Dyche has been a life-saver for the Lancashire outfit, consistently keeping them in the top flight for each of the last five seasons.

This would fit the remit set by Ashley – much to the annoyance of our fanbase – and also provide a fresh start for Toon fans who are desperate to see the back of Bruce.

Eddie Howe was the popular choice among supporters in The Chronicle’s poll back in March, with the free agent being known for his attacking philosophy and his obvious links to some of the players already within our squad.

  1. So Ashley is not likely to even consider sacking Bruce, and Bruce has stated quite categorically that he will not walk away.

    Apart from that, great story!
