“I have made friends for life and made a really big connection with the fans – it is one of my options and I am going to consider it. Hopefully there’s more to come in the future.”
The biggest hint yet that Joe Willock is eager to extend his stay on Tyneside – comments that arrived soon after Newcastle United fans hijacked his pitch-side Sky Sports interview with “WE WANT YOU TO STAY!”
Not only did the 21-year-old make history last night, becoming the youngest player in PL history to score in SIX consecutive games, he did anything but distance himself from a summer return to St James’ Park.
Watch the brilliant interview below, followed by some telling quotes from a separate and slightly more revealing post-match interview: :
“I want to say thank you for making me feel so welcome and thank you for greeting me with open arms,”
“I hope you’re satisfied with what I’ve given for the club so far and hopefully there’s more to come in the future.
“I’m not going to promise anything, but the conversation is going to be held.
“To make history at this special club is special for me. I came here on loan to help the team and it’s turned into a brilliant story.
“It’s been tremendous and I’m so happy that we can sign off with a win at home.”
“I have made friends for life and made a really big connection with the fans.
“It is one of my options and I am going to consider it.”
A brilliant lad, that box-to-box midfielder we’d been lacking for years, an incredible athlete and a player whose seven goals have been no fluke after several superbly timed runs and ice-cool finishes.
I sincerely hope this wasn’t his first and only game in front of fans at St James’ Park – and suspect it won’t be based on his latest comments.
Joe Willock, we want tou to stay!
