Manager set to make NUFC outcast his ‘top target’ if he lands WBA job – Part-exchange possible?

Chris Wilder will make Dwight Gayle his top summer target if he takes over at West Brom this summer, according to The Mirror.

Gayle is out of contract and out of favour at NUFC, but has reportedly been offered a three-year deal to prolong his stay on Tyneside – something that many believe has only been put forward to make sure we get a fee for him this summer, not lose him on a free!

He has a prolific goalscoring record in the Championship and excelled at The Baggies during his loan spell there in 2018/19, scoring 23 goals in 39 league games.

One option that could entice Newcastle into a deal could be the opportunity of a part-exchange with midfielder Matheus Pereria – a classy player many have tipped us to sign following their drop back down into the second tier.

The Brazilian has been a rare highlight in West Brom’s dismal relegation season, scoring an impressive 11 top flight goals and putting in some eye-catching displays.

We did a deal with West Brom a few years ago, with them allowing Rondon to come our way if they had Gayle for a season, so it wouldn’t be the worst idea to pursue this.

He is certainly be a player we should be keeping tabs on; if an opportunity presented itself that allowed us to use Gayle as leverage as part of a deal, we should snap their hands off!

After all, we don’t have much money to spend this summer, we need Gayle out – he looks uninterested and isn’t Premier League quality – and this may be our best route to signing a £20m-rated player like Pereira this summer.

  1. If Gayle signs that new contract we won’t be interested. He’s on a free, would like a fat salary so why would he sign it when he knows he’s not wanted.
From the Baggies point of view. Gayle on a free and a nice 30 to 35 mil fee for Pereira is a deal.
    Anything else is stupidity.
