Sky Sports: NUFC now hoping for Joe Willock breakthrough as Arsenal announce new deal

Sky Sports have offered an update on our attempts to sign Joe Willock this afternoon, and it seems we’ve been given some fresh hope.

They report that we are now hoping the 21-year-old’s return to Newcastle United can be ‘accelerated’ now the Gunners have announced a new long-term contract for Emile Smith-Rowe.

The attacking midfielder had attracted a host of bids from Aston Villa this summer, however it seems he has now committed his future to the North London club.

Not only that, Arsenal have this week announced the signing of box-to-box midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga – an £18m deal that could also increase the likelihood of Willock’s exit being sanctioned.

Here’s what Sky Sports’ report, suggesting Smith-Rowe’s new deal could have a positive knock-on effect when it comes to Willock’s future:

With no signings made so far this summer and the takeover saga taking yet another sour turn earlier this week, we could really do with some good news right now.

Landing our top target and the man who fired us up the table towards the back end of last season would be a very good ‘start’ to a summer that’s left us all fed up and frustrated ahead of next month’s opening day clash with West Ham.

  1. Palace could do a great deal with Arsenal. They could swap Zaha for Willcock and another Arsenal forward
