Sky Sports have issued an update on the managerial situation at St James’ Park, revealing a name who is high on the new owners’ agenda.
According to their North-East correspondent Keith Downie, former Roma and Shakhtar Donetsk boss Paulo Fonseca is a serious contender for the job.
The Portuguese manager saw his odds drop to just 6/5 late last night, making him the bookies new favourite to take over on Tyneside.
Now, Downie reports that he’s been lined up by our Saudi-backed buyers ‘if and when’ Steve Bruce is sacked.
Here’s what he’s had to say during a Wednesday morning update for Sky Sports News:
As highlighted above, Fonseca came close to landing the Spurs job over the summer, being handed an interview for the role.
He is known for an attacking brand of football, famously having this to say about his approach when facing the ‘big teams’…
“I cannot be a different way. All my teams will have these intentions. Against the biggest teams, I’m not sending out my teams to defend near their own box.”
That’d make a stark change of approach.
On the sponsorship issue, could Etihad Airlines not sponsor us for mega bucks and Aramco in return sponsor Man City?
