NUFC official spotted watching 18-year-old wonderkid in stunning form this season – Report

According to reports in Germany, Newcastle United are keeping a close eye on Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.

This comes from Sport Bild, who claim that we sent scout Geoff Lockhart to watch the highly-rated 18-year-old in their 2-2 draw with Koln last Sunday.

The German wonderkid has enjoyed a stunning start to the 2021/22 season, bagging an outstanding six goals and six assists in 12 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

The report claims that he is unlikely to leave Bayer Leverkusen anytime soon, being contracted to the club until 2023 and currently thriving in the opening stages of his development with the Bundesliga side.

With this in mind, along with the fact a series of other top clubs will be aware of his impressive form, Sport Bild claim we have ‘a lot of work to do’ if they are to convince the teenage sensation to sign at St James’ Park.

Wirtz is an attacking midfielder who can play as a number 10 or out wide and recently gained his first call up to the German national side – where he bagged assists in two of his four substitute appearances!
