Former Sky Sports reporter claims NUFC finally set to announce new director of football

It looks like Michael Emenalo might just be on his way to Newcastle United.

As reported former Sky Sports reporter Pete O’Rourke late last night, it’s believed the ex-Chelsea chief will be named the club’s new director of football.

The Telegraph revealed last week that the 56-year-old was the new owner’s ‘leading candidate’ after being spotted holding talks with club representatives in Saudi Arabia.

The same report also stated that Emenalo was a ‘big fan’ of Eddie Howe’s, suggesting the pair could work well together at St James’ Park.

ESPN claimed on Thursday afternoon Ramon Planes was competing with the Nigerian for the new role on Tyneside following his exit at Barcelona, however O’Rourke has now insisted that the latter will be named our new director of football.

Here’s what he broke to his 102,000 Twitter followers just before 11pm last night:

Emenalo worked wonders during his 10 years at Stamford Bridge, revolutionising their Academy and signing the likes of De Bruyne, Hazard, Lukaku, Salah and Azpilicueta before they became stars on the European stage.

If this news is true, it would be a huge coup for the club and potentially perfect appointment.

Fingers crossed, folks!
