Newcastle dealt double blow as duo are ruled out of next week’s must-win clash vs Norwich

Jamaal Lascelles and Matt Ritchie will miss next Tuesday’s must-win clash with Norwich at St James’ Park.

The pair came into Saturday’s game with Arsenal on four yellow cards for the season – one away from suspension – and both received bookings in the 2-0 defeat at The Emirates.

As a result, they’ll now miss next week’s vital game against the Canaries and return for Saturday’s equally important clash with Burnley.

One relief was that Callum Wilson avoided a booking, with our top scorer being another who came into the match on four yellow cards for the season.

So, with Lascelles and Ritchie out, there’ll be at least two changes next week. Who knows, this could see Jamal Lewis come in for his first start of the season against his former club?

At centre-back, it will be interesting to see if Fernandez returns after being left out of the squad five games running.

Whatever happens, this is a game we simply must win after Saturday’s defeat left us 13 games without a win so far this season.

  1. How’s it a double blow neither can defend , Richie isn’t a left back and lascelles can be a liability.

  2. Totally agree Keith.
If it means we get our best defender Fernandez and Lewis, a proper full back (not a converted over- the-hill winger), playing, we may start to see some results.
Perhaps we can get suspensions for Longstaff and Fraser while we’re at it?

  3. The problem is the green club owners picked the wrong manager to bring with. They picked Howe because he wasn’t afraid of relegation. That shouldn’t have been an issue to begin with when you fought 2 years to buy a club with a plan.
Currently we are playing like Bournemouth. We have all the hallmarks to go all out attack and leave the GK exposed. Wait till we play the likes of Liverpool, Leicester, United and City who will punish the team with 4 plus goals before Xmas

  4. A Blessing in disguise them two not playing lascelles is a liability. Richie is over the hill he is not a Fullback and Lascelles is always standing by himself marking Space

  5. Jones has to go asap as now it’s confused thinking and a complete shambles!

We kept a clean sheet with Lewis against Burnley but haven’t seen this back 4 play together again (!!?)

Richie gives 100% but just isn’t a defender BUT there are really big issues if we have to advise the Manager that this isn’t working!

Look If we haven’t got 6pts this time next Sunday – Amanda has to hold her hands up and admit you went for someone JUST because you knew he wouldn’t turn the job down after losing face with Emery and the handling.

Sad thing is EVEN with money it’s the club’s around that have shown clear intent and Howe seems to be only focused on friend’s above TEAM.

  6. Things look as though they are taking a turn for the better!
The old favourites not playing might force a decent change, someone who can actually defend!
They will probably play Darlow at left back and Joelinton at centre half!

  7. Now perhaps we can field a decent back four without the liability of Ritchie and Laccelles who was at fault again for both goals, hand in the air and hope utter tripe.
Bring in Fernandez, Manquillo and Lewis alongside Schaar.

  8. This really is a blessing for the toon faithful to be getting two of our worst players out and better players in. Yippee, this couldn’t be soon enough. Plus, we have our goalie back. Now stick with it Eddie. Please.

  9. Kk if you actually took a step back from your constant miserable moaning and whining your vendetta against Jones what we are seeing know is nothing to do with the appointment of howe or the takeover its 14 years of complete and utter neglect of mike Ashley you and some other sad miserable whining moaning fans seem to have forgotten it was a near certainty we would get relegated when the season started under Ashley at the helm and Bruce in the dugout so no miracle was suddenly going to happen just because of the takeover so it’s simple if we are suddenly a shambles like you say going support someone else and take the rest of the moaners with you
