Callum Wilson makes huge Joelinton claim after West Ham star reveals ‘shock’ at £40m Brazilian – Video

Callum Wilson believes Joelinton is on course to be named Newcastle United’s player of the season for 2021/22, describing him as “unplayable.”

Speaking on the BBC Footballer’s Football podcast alongside West Ham’s Michail Antonio, our sidelined striker has explained just how impressed he’s been by the big Brazilian who’s been “transformed” by Eddie Howe.

Wilson says he’s a “totally different player” to the one that arrived in a £40m deal from Hoffenheim two-and-a-half years ago, calling him “unreal” and someone who will only get better, as he’s still only 25.

Hammer star Michail Antonio has also revealed his ‘shock’ at how good the big man has been since dropping deep into midfield, praising his “quality” performance in our 1-1 draw at the London stadium last weekend.

You can listen to what both had to say below:

Michail Antonio:

“Do you know who shocked me, who I’m very impressed with? Joelinton.

You guys signed him for £40 million as a number nine but I think he’s found his position.

“Moving him inside, I was waiting for a mistake because you can’t gamble as a midfielder. But everything he did was assured; he was quality.”

Callum Wilson:

“He’s a joke!”

“At the minute, he’s our player of the season, the way Eddie’s transformed him.

He’s been outstanding the last eight weeks. He looks a totally different player.

“He was playing out wide in Germany and now he’s inside a little bit more.

“He’s unreal, he’s unplayable. And he’s still so young as well. Now he should get the plaudits he deserves.

“What a player.”
