Interesting comments from Eddie Howe on the “real weapon” he could use in the coming weeks

Eddie Howe believes Miguel Almiron “energy and pressing” at both ends of the pitch can be a “real weapon” for Newcastle United over the coming weeks.

The Paraguayan is facing an uncertain future on Tyneside, with agent Daniel Campos currently on Tyneside for talks after his client has managed just five of Howe’s 21 games in charge.

However, the NUFC boss felt he did “really well” during Friday’s 1-0 win over Wolves – a game which saw him come on after just 10 minutes due to a hamstring injury to Ryan Fraser.

With the former Bournemouth winger now facing a spell on the sidelines, it looks like Miggy could be handed a chance to impress Howe; who has spoken highly of his movement, impressive fitness levels and defensive awareness.

Here’s what the 46-year-old had to say about the South American:

“I thought Miggy did really well.

“Miggy has been away on international duty, then he was ill, so we haven’t seen a great deal of him. But never doubt him physically.”

“Despite the fact he hasn’t trained with us a great deal, I backed him physically to play that time, and the energy and pressing that Miggy gives you is a real weapon.

“He was tireless, his defensive positioning was very good and he had moments where he affected it in the final third, several good runs in behind.

“He played his part in the VAR goal that was disallowed, so a really good night for Miggy, I thought.”
