Belgian international now NUFC’s back-up plan if summer moves for two top targets fail – Report

The Daily Mail report that Newcastle have added Brighton winger Leandro Trossard to their list of winger targets ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Belgian international signed for the Seagulls from Genk for around £18 million in 2019 and has started for them 79 times in the league, bagging 15 goals and nine assists in that time.

Interestingly, The Mail suggests that Trossard may be pursued if moves for Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby and Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson fail to materialise, with the club aware of the competition they’ll face to sign either.

This isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with one of Brighton’s key players, with midfield dynamo Yves Bissouma and ball-playing goalie Robert Sanchez also named as targets in recent weeks.

Trossard has five goals this season and made his Belgium debut under Roberto Martinez in 2020, featuring in last summer’s Euros after scoring three times in 15 appearances for his country.

Should Newcastle make a move for the winger, we could make it three potential Brighton signings in a matter of months following the capture of centre-back Dan Burn in January and seemingly imminent arrival of Technical Director Dan Ashworth.
