Hugo Ekitike reacts to Newcastle rumours after Reims fan approaches him in the street

The Hugo Ekitike saga has dragged on almost six months now, leaving many to wonder if the highly-rated 20-year-old will ever sign at St James’ Park.

Conflicting claims emerged yesterday. The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder reported that the move was edging ever closer, while The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards claimed the deal was continuing to stall, however an interesting interaction has since emerged on social media.

Late last night, Reims supporter Willy Carpaye released a short video and series of tweets after bumping into the Frenchman during a music festival in the city on Tuesday.

Not only did this confirm that the striker is back from his holiday – the player’s latest Instagram posts also highlight this – it included Ekitike’s reaction to the Newcastle United links.

Here’s what Reims fan Willy said on Twitter after the forward stopped for a photo and brief chat:

“Hugo is fine. I assure you! No injury! So he is OK to score even more next season.

But where? I asked the question if he would go to Newcastle. He smiled at me!”

Willy also posted the following video, along with the caption “Congratulations on your season at the Stade de Reims! I wish you all the best for you and your family. May God preserve you from any injury! And good continuation in your career.”

  1. I have followed this message for 6 months n ow and am fed up with the way that the contributors (writers) to this site have dragged my interest along all this time.
I uderstand that negotiations have to take place between parties but who are these parties. There is only one Botman and only one EKE. If they say yes to a deal then take action.Cut out these parasits who call themdelves agents .owners.advisors etc, and get the job done.
If these footballers are trying to put [ressure on Howe to up the costs then MOVE ON to someone who rerally want to join Newcastle.
Please tell me how it is I dont want to hear all this pontification and dressed up stories .
Jusy go ahead and find me a CB a forward and a midfielder beacuse evey sensible reader knows what the team wants,.
I am a 77 year old supporter who now really needs to support a team they can be proud of.

Hi mate – appreciate the message and you following the site over the past few months.

All we’re doing is sharing the bits of information that are out there mate. It isn’t our fault it’s turned into a never-ending transfer saga that’s dragged on for six months.

Believe me, it’s even more frustrating having to write about it!
