Eddie Howe makes new transfer vow in Sky Sports interview as Toon eye two key signings

In an interview with Sky Sports, a bullish Eddie Howe has insisted the club “won’t stop” in their search for new attacking arrivals as he eyes “a couple of attackers who could make a difference.”

This comes after we’ve had two bids rejected for Leicester City’s James Maddison over the past few days, while the likes of Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet and Chelsea’s Timo Werner have emerged as targets.

It seems Maddison is currently our number one target, but the club may need to up their offer considerably if we’re to land the £60m-rated star from the Foxes.

Speaking to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie from the club’s training base, here’s what Howe had to say:

“We would like to add there.

It’s no secret we’ve been looking at a couple of attackers who could make a difference.

Players with different profiles.

We are still looking for one or two players that can make a difference for us.

We won’t stop.”

With the beginning of the new season just days away, it is unlikely that there will be any new members by the time we play Nottingham Forest. However, that last line from Howe seems pretty telling, suggesting we won’t give in until the right players have arrived at St James’ Park.

However you look at it, it’s pretty refreshing that we’ve gone from loan bids for Hamza Choudhury in August 2021 to £40m offers for James Maddison in August 2022 – an exciting sign of things to come, it seems!
