Newcastle youngster Santiago Munoz produced a stunning goal in an Under-21 friendly game against Dundee United on Monday – just two days after he made a first-team cameo against Athletic Bilbao.
During the game, the 19-year-old picked the ball up on the edge of the box, knocked it through one defender’s legs before cutting in on his right foot – sending the next defender the wrong way – and slotting it home.
The Mexican was signed last summer on an 18-month loan deal from Santos Laguna with an option to make his deal permanent, but the Texas-born man is yet to make his first-team debut in a competitive game.
Upon signing, many supporters pointed out the similarities with the character ‘Santiago Munoz’ from the movie Goal! – although he is yet to score the winning goal to send us into the Champions League!
On an international level, the forward has been an exciting talent and has made 24 appearances in Mexico’s youth teams but it is yet to be seen whether he will be given a chance in Eddie Howe’s Premier League squad.
See the goal below:
He’s been training with the senior squad. Is it possible that Howe is keeping his options open and looking to include the lad in the squad in case we can’t get a striker in by end of play?
