Newcastle now considering surprise move for Manchester United midfielder – TalkSPORT

According to talkSPORT, Newcastle United are one of four Premier League sides eyeing Red Devils midfielder Scott McTominay.

They report that we have ‘registered an interest’ in the Scotland international, who could leave Manchester United in the final few weeks of the summer window.

With a £60m move for Real Madrid’s Casemiro now agreed, McTominay is expected to lose his place in the middle of the park, as Fred is being tipped to start alongside the Champions League winning Brazilian.

Any move for the 25-year-old would be a surprise and sign that we are still in the market for another midfielder – which could make some sense now Jonjo Shelvey is set to miss the first half of the season following hamstring surgery.

However, I’m not sure fans would be too receptive to the idea of McTominay arriving on Tyneside, with his stock falling considerably in Manchester over the past few years.

Here’s a snippet from talkSPORT’s piece, which claims we are one of four interested clubs:

‘Scott McTominay is wanted by four Premier League sides with Manchester United’s signing of Casemiro expected to reduce his first-team chances.

Everton, Leicester, Newcastle and West Ham have all registered an interest in McTominay, who could well lose his spot in Erik ten Hag’s starting eleven in the coming weeks.

United completed a shock £60million deal for five-time Champions League winner Casemiro from Real Madrid, and the Brazilian will undoubtedly become first choice in the heart of midfield.

The 30-year-old will likely be paired with international colleague Fred, who he’s formed a solid partnership with in midfield for Brazil.’
