Newcastle set to sign free agent as sudden injury forces club into shock move – Sky Sports

Newcastle United are ‘on the verge’ of signing former Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius following an ankle injury to Karl Darlow.

This comes via Sky Sports News, who reveal that we’ve been forced to make an emergency move for another stopper now our current number two looks set for a spell on the sidelines.

Karius, 29, was released by Liverpool over the summer following recent loan spells at Besiktas and Union Berlin and will arrive on Tyneside on a free transfer.

Sky Sports report that the German is already in the North-East for his medical, with him expected to sign a short-term deal at the club to fill in for Karl Darlow.

Martin Dubravka had been our back-up option just a few weeks ago, however the Slovakian completed a late loan move to Manchester United last month, meaning Nick Pope and Mark Gillespie would’ve been the only senior options available to Eddie Howe following Karl Darlow’s injury; which could keep him out for a reported six weeks.
