Newcastle sign former England youth international on trial following Premier League release – Report

Newcastle United have signed Amadou Diallo up to a trial period following his release from West Ham.

As revealed by The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, he featured in our U21’s 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough and Friday night and will be handed a chance to impress over the coming weeks.

Diallo made 54 appearances in the five seasons he spent with the hammers, scoring 10 times. He’s largely played on the left-wing throughout his young career, operating on the right or through the middle on occasion.

The 19-year-old has previously played for England’s Under-16s and Under-17s – netting five times in 17 games – and would be another addition to our academy following summer moves for Charlie McArthur, Jude Smith, Alex Murphy and Jordan Hackett.

Since the arrival of Dan Ashworth, the club is clearly making a big effort to overhaul the current academy and put a lot of focus on building for the future, with Aussie talent Garang Kuol also signing just a few days ago.

Despite West Ham not believing it to be worth keeping Diallo on the books, the Magpies will hope that his release will spur him on to impress in the potentially short time he’ll have on Tyneside.
