Newcastle lining up another new contract as club prepare talks with “huge fan favourite” – Report

According to 90min’s Graeme Bailey, Newcastle United are planning on giving experienced defender Kieran Trippier a new contract shortly after Callum Wilson signed his new deal.

The 32-year-old has been one of our most important players since arriving in January and, despite his current deal lasting until 2024, those at the top believe he has earned the right to discuss new terms.

Regarding the club’s contract situation, the majority of our key players are on long-term deals, but the owners, as ever, are wanting to be pro-active and ensure that they won’t have any kind of issue further down the line.

While the right-back may be a big fan favourite who has shown his ability to lead by example, it is unlikely that this is anything other than a one-year extension as the England international enters the twilight of his career.

If nothing else, by the time his final few months at the club rolls around, Trippier will still be a great role model and influential character to have at the club to offer support and advice to the squad’s future stars.

Speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast, here’s what Bailey had to say:

“Newcastle have their squad tied up nicely at the moment, when you look at their squad there aren’t many players who need new deals right now, but Kieran Trippier is one of them.

He’s a huge fan favourite, there’s a real fondness for him and the fans love him.

He’s played very well to be fair and he’s led by example and from what I’m told they’re considering a new deal for him.”
