Toon owners eye January bids for TWO top targets to boost European ambitions – Report

According to Mark Douglas at iNews, Newcastle’s owners are preparing to be active in the January window, with insiders believing our European ambitions will aid pursuits of James Maddison and Moussa Diaby.

The report reveals that our new owners are tempted to launch fresh bids for both, believing it could boost our pursuit of European football.

In the summer window, Newcastle sometimes found it difficult to persuade high-calibre players such as Maddison and Diaby to come to the North East and buy in to our long-term project.

Both Diaby at Bayer Leverkusen (15th) and Maddison at Leicester (20th) have had terrible starts to the season, but the duo have shone as individuals and could force their way out if this form continues.

After a few good results that have shot us up to sixth in the Premier League and perhaps an early contender for a European spot, those at the top believe this will be key as we follow up on our summer targets.

However, while a new right-winger seemed imperative for us in the summer and still is really, Almiron’s improved performances may just have made the decision to replace him a bit tougher for Eddie Howe.
