NUFC player ratings vs Spurs – One 9, two 8.5’s, several 8’s, a few 7’s and the odd 6

What a titanic result that is. In terms of making a statement, that has to be our biggest since the takeover! Into the top

Here come the ratings from a wet, yet ecstatic White Hart Lane,

Nick Pope – 7 – Couldn’t do anything about Kane’s goal. Made a smart save with his feet to deny Kane in the first half and also stood his ground well to stop Son’s early chance. Distribution wasn’t particularly good today, but he never lets us down. Booked for time wasting late on in the match.

Kieran Trippier – 8 – Brilliant performance against his former side. Battled superbly well all afternoon. One downside he was done by Kane for his header from the corner, concentrating on the man too much rather than the ball. Cleared one off the line in the first half, won all seven of his ground duels and four brilliant tackles.

Fabian Schar – 8.5 – The Swiss man has formed a formidable bond with Botman at the heart of our defence. Executed a wonderful pass through to Joelinton in the first half which could’ve been assist of the season but also defended superbly, reading the play well, winning all of his aerial duels and stepping out of defence with real quality. Five clearances and three blocked shots summed up a brilliant afternoon for the centre-back.

Sven Botman – 8.5 – His performance summed up wonderfully by Jamie Redknapp in his post match analysis. “There has been some fantastic centre half’s throughout the years in the Premier League, at 22 this lad could be as good as them all, a true leader of men”. He handled Kane superbly, won his battles in the air an swept up with ease on the deck. Three clearances, one key pass and two tackles summed up an outstanding showing.

Dan Burn – 7 – A composed afternoon for the Blyth man who didn’t let us down at left-back. Completed 97% of his passes with a solid in possession performance. A threat from set pieces, too.

Sean Longstaff – 7 – Covered every blade of grass. Bleeds black and white and always puts in an unbelievable shift when called upon. Almost got caught after losing the ball in a bad position in the first half, but got forward well, breaking the lines with penetrating running. Gets an assist for Miggy’s wondergoal.

Bruno Guimaraes – 8 – I’ll never get tired of praising Bruno as he constantly puts in fantastic performances. Although being numerically outnumbered in midfield, Bruno bossed the midfield battle, creating opportunities and stopping counter attacks. Although not his best showing by his extremely high standards, he still provided a great performance. Booked for a foul and possibly lucky not to be sent off with a few rash challenges in the second half.

Joe Willock – 6 – Full of energy all afternoon but only completed 17 passes in a pretty quiet game. Played his part – as everyone did – however he did seem to be knackered and was subsequently taken off in the 75th minute.

Miguel Almiron – 9 – Miguel Almiron or Lionel Messi? Another superb goal from our Paraguayan star boy. Jack Grealish has unleashed an absolute MONSTER. 60 touches, completed 94% of his passes and gave Spurs’ left hand side nightmares all afternoon. The best player on the pitch, mixing his relentless work rate with some lovely build up play and another devastating finish.

Joelinton – 8 – Looked a real threat coming in from the left hand side, a much better option that Murphy. For me, left wing might be the Brazilian’s best position. A huge presence on the pitch and tracked back fantastically, most notably stopping a dangerous Spurs counter attack in the second half motoring back. His mobility was outstanding all afternoon. His defensive capabilities highlighted by four tackles and one interception.

Callum Wilson – 8 – Led the line superbly well, taking his goal beautifully chipping the helpless Lloris. Booked for blocking the goalkeepers kick in the second half. Unlucky not to have another goal attempting to deflect Willock’s shot/cross into the far corner. Only had 24 touches but boy, did he make them count.

SUBS:

Jacob Murphy – 6 – Didn’t affect the game but battled well.

Chris Wood – 7 – Won some priceless fouls to spoil the game late on. Unlucky not to be released through on goal by Trippier late on.

Shelvey – N/A – Came on for the final few minutes. Played one nice ball down the line to help us waste time. Nice to see him back!
