Last week, Richard Keys proposed that Newcastle United move their training ground to London in order to attract bigger names; an idea Eddie Howe has described as an “absolute non-starter.”
Howe has also been asked about reports claiming Miguel Almiron is set to be offered a contract extension, stating that there’s been “no conversations” between the club and his representatives as of yet.
The boss also discussed Unai Emery’s appointment at Aston Villa, describing the Spaniard – who almost took over on Tyneside 12 months ago – as a “fantastic manager” and “brilliant appointment” for Aston Villa.
As for Keys, it’s right of Howe to shut down what was a frankly ludicrous suggestion from the Bein Sports pundit, with the gaffer stressing how “very proud” he is to be associated with such a “brilliant place to live.”
Here’s what he had to say on all of the above when speaking in this morning’s press conference:
Howe on Richard Keys’ suggestion we should move our training ground to London:
“Absolute non-starter. We’re playing for Newcastle, working for Newcastle. We will be in Newcastle and that’s how it has to be.
“We are very proud to be associated with the city. It’s a brilliant place to live”
Howe on rumours of a new contract for Miguel Almiron:
“I don’t know where story has come from.
“I love and respect him but no conversations between us and his representatives.
“It’s been a busy spell of games – any contract discussions will take place at a later date.”
Howe on Unai Emery’s appointment at Aston Villa:
“A fantastic manager with an unbelievable record in various countries, in Europe especially.
“It’s a brilliant appointment by Aston Villa, but I’m very proud to be leading this team and looking forward to the challenges ahead.”
