Newcastle hit with one-game ban and another player at risk of missing Chelsea clash

After picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in our 4-0 demolition of Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon, Joelinton will be forced to serve a one-game suspension for our visit to Southampton next weekend.

The Brazilian is not one to shy away from a tackle and has shown his physical presence in midfield after racking up five yellow cards in our opening 13 Premier League games.

Fabian Schar escaped a caution yesterday, but he will miss our final game before the World Cup – a meeting with Chelsea on November 12th – if he’s booked next weekend, as he’s currently on four yellows for the season.

Joelinton took out Tyrone Mings in the second half on Saturday and will now be unavailable as we travel to St Mary’s next Sunday looking to make it nine games unbeaten.

Thankfully the suspension coincides with the return of Jonjo Shelvey and Allan Saint-Maximin; two options for Eddie Howe after Joelinton has operated in midfield and out wide in recent weeks.

The timing of the suspension isn’t ideal for the 25-year-old – who impressed in front of Brazil boss Tite with a goal and dominant display – but at least we have options to replace our £40m man.

  1. You forgot to mention that in addition to Schar, every other player in the team could be banned for the Chelsea match, if they all get sent off at Southampton!
