Speaking on Jake Humphrey’s High Performance Podcast, Eddie Howe revealed the three “non-negotiable” rules presented to his squad when he was appointed at Newcastle this time last year.
From day one the 44-year-old introduced the following principles that his players and staff must work by:
- You must always give your best
- You must be willing to learn and improve
- You must put the interests of your team before your own personal interests
His character and drive to get the best out his squad has clearly had a huge impact both on and off the pitch, with the entire team buying into his philosophy and showing a real togetherness all season.
Howe has also shown to be very wary of the kind of players we sign – he has made it clear he would rather sign great characters who are willing to fight over superstars with overly inflated egos.
See the clip below, which features a brilliant snippet from Howe’s in depth chat with Humphrey:
With the team currently flying high in third place and confidently playing free-flowing football, it is impossible to question the former Bournemouth man’s coaching methods.
A top manager, great guy and podcast well worth watching!
