Saudi deal imminent at Newcastle United as telling photos emerge from St James’ Park?

If the latest set of photos emerging from St James’ Park are anything to go by, it looks like another Saudi sponsor could be announced imminently at Newcastle Uninted.

Not only have staff – who appear to be from airline company Saudia – been taking promotional pictures inside and outside the stadium, the electronic advertising boards inside St James’ Park were spotted displaying “Fly Saudia” on Friday afternoon.

It’s got fans talking on Tyneside and would make plenty of sense, with the club expected to boost commercial revenue via the arrival of lucrative new sponsors.

When asked if Saudi-based sponsors are being considered to help boost our spending power, CEO Darren Eales had this to say last month.

“Absolutely. It would make sense in terms of some of the doors that could be opened by PIF. They invest in a number of countries globally. I also think when you look at a country like Saudi Arabia with a young population – 36million and growing – football is the No1 sport and there is some natural affinity there in terms of the commercial value of having an association with Newcastle.”

Here’s the intriguing photos from St James’ Park that have been circulating on social media:

  2. M weldon: Newcastle does not get the publicity they deserve from the media.

Oh they get plenty of coverage from the media 99% of it spite and bile.
They have done for for past few decades. I tracked it back to when Shearer signed for home town club Newcastle and not the media’s club, Man U. Since had it has been spiteful and petulant attacks on Newcastle fans and city NON STOP – some think it’s only been since the Saudis. The Saudis have been wonderful considerate owners that mean only well for our club.
And that enrages the press especially even more. They wanted it to be Man U or Liverpool or a North London club ONLY and the spiteful ranting has never stopped since

  3. I am constantly reading about how well Newcastle are doing in the premier league only then find further articles deploring the management and owners. The sporting media cannot get their minds around that a consortium took control of the club, have made changes for the better and have plans to improve the club and make it a world class one. The city of Newcastle supports the new owners and of course the team and in return the owners have agreed to be open and transparent with the supporters about development and the general running of the club. The point therefore is that the media are not supporting sport but degrading anything that a club will do to be clean and honest with their supporters. Like all Newcastle supporters I take media comments with a pinch of salt and ignore them and await publication from the club itself.
