Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has urged Newcastle to replace Allan Saint-Maximin with Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha, believing the former Man Utd talent “scores more” than ASM.
The 30-year-old will be out of contract in 2023 with the club yet to agree terms with their star man, meaning he will be allowed to enter pre-contract negotiations with overseas clubs at the beginning of January.
Zaha has had a great start to the new campaign, scoring six and assisting two in his 13 appearances so far, putting him on track for his most impressive season yet with the Eagles.
Ferdinand claims that the Ivorian would be a ‘problem’ for Premier League if playing at St James’ Park, feeling he’d be more prolific that Saint-Maximin if we weren’t able to have both.
On Zaha, Ferdinand had this to say on his Youtube channel:
“If I am Newcastle, I would buy him straight off.
“I would take him, and I would sell Saint-Maximin. Or I would have them both.
“He scores more than Saint-Maximin.
“Keep Saint-Maximin or whatever, but Wilfried Zaha at Newcastle is a problem.”
Despite his trickery and exciting play style, the Frenchman has struggled to be a significant goal threat in his three seasons at the club, scoring just 12 in 93 games.
But he has become a something of a fan favourite at St James’ Park and it would be disappointing to see his career on Tyneside fizzle out when all looked so promising upon his arrival.
So we have been linked with Mudryk, Diaby, Trossard even baradi and he suggests a 30 yr old who has always been inconsistent.
I thin our recruitment team have a bit more sense than that
