Mike Ashley should be allowed nowhere near football clubs, as the former Toon owner has shown his true colours once again today.
Just a fortnight after completing a £17m purchase of Coventry City’s home stadium, Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group have issued the club with an eviction notice, saying they now have have no continuing right to use the Coventry Building Society Arena.
The ploy is clear – force a club into more distress in a bid to pick it up on the cheap. He’s essentially bought the stadium as a way of holding the club to ransom, as this latest move could bankrupt Coventry City – making it an unattractive venture for potential buyers – and open the door for him to strike a deal for peanuts.
He shouldn’t have been allowed to buy the stadium in the first place, as those in power should have seen this coming. However, this is what Mike Ashley does. He throws money at struggling businesses on the brink of collapse, backs them into a corner and doesn’t care who he harms in the process.
Things had been looking up for the Championship side. They’d won their last four games to nil heading into the World Cup, moving two points behind the play-off spots, yet they’ve now been evicted from their own stadium and left in complete and utter limbo.
More proof that Mike Ashley is a heartless parasite who has no place in football.
