16-year-old talent beats seven Mags in Toon training game after surprise trip to Saudi – Video

When the first pictures emerged of the Newcastle United squad arriving in Saudi Arabia, it was a pleasant surprise to see 16-year-old talent Lewis Miley included in the trip.

The Gateshead-born midfielder has only recently made the step up to U21 football in the Premier League 2, but the club clearly have high hopes for the local lad.

He recently earned his first cap for England U17s – where he’s gone on to bag one goal and an assist in his last three appearances – and was was presented with the Jack Hixon trophy for Tyneside’s most promising youngster at Newcastle’s annual awards dinner last month.

Fast forward a few weeks, the club have released footage of the players training out in Riydah, with one clip feature Miley beating Miguel Almiron, Joelinton, Sean Longstaff, Allan Saint-Maximin, Chris Wood, Ryan raser, Elliot Anderson and fellow U21 Dylan Stephenson in a training game overseen by Eddie Howe and Graeme Jones.

The head-tennis style drill can be seen from 2:50 onwards in the video below, seeing the teenage talent come out on top to a big round of applause after beating Fraser in the final:
