‘Exclusive’ claims Newcastle are showing interest in another USA international

According to an ‘exclusive’ from TEAMtalk, Newcastle United are showing interest in Fulham defender Antonee Robinson, who is also being tracked by Inter Milan.

The 25-year-old has impressed in the Premier League this season and during the USA’s run to the last 16 of the World Cup, where they were knocked out by the Netherlands last weekend.

The report claims that Howe is keen to bring another specialist left-back to St James’ Park. Dan Burn is doing a solid job at present and we have Matt Targett in reserve, but there’s a lack of reliable depth in this department with doubts over Jamal Lewis and Paul Dummett’s future.

This isn’t the first USMNT international we’ve been linked with over the past few months, as the club were heavily linked with a late loan move for Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic over the summer.

Robinson was actually on the cusp of signing for AC Milan from Wigan back in 2020 before it was discovered that he had an irregular heart rhythm, but he was subsequently signed by the Cottagers that same year.

As he will soon enter the final 18 months of his contract, it’s possible that Fulham cash in on their pacy full-back while they still can – meaning a cut-price deal could be on offer in 2023.

Personally, I see Robinson as a decent player, but not someone I’d expect us to target when European football and competing with the ‘big six’ is on the agenda under new ownership. I’d file this one in the unlikely department, for now!
