Newcastle join race to sign Atletico Madrid star as Howe requests personality checks – Report

According to a new report from FootballTransfers, Newcastle United have joined the race for Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix.

Jacque Talbot’s exclusive reveals that Eddie Howe has requested more information on the player’s personality, although it seems any bid from St James’ Park has a slim chance of success at present.

Firstly, it’s thought Felix would prefer to join Manchester United – another club who’ve been linked with the talented 23-year-old – with the versatile forward also likely to demand wages that would test our current salary cap.

The Portuguese international has reservations about joining a club whose project is still in its infancy and is eager to secure Champions League football – something both ourselves and Man Utd are unable to guarantee at this stage.

Newcastle believe Felix could be available at a cut-price fee following a recent fallout with Diego Simeone, with FootballTransfers reporting that an initial loan featuring an option to buy next summer may be possible.

However, it seems the player would prefer a move to Old Trafford following interest from the Red Devils, while a possible switch to PSG is another option for the former Benfica star currently at the World Cup.
