Newcastle players from both the men’s and women’s teams recently visited hospitals on Tyneside to show support for young fans as part of the club’s Helping Hands at Christmas campaign.
The campaign was recently announced to support the local area and help to battle the cost of living crisis, with the club donating £150,000 as well as staff to Newcastle West End Foodbank.
The players surprised the children and made sure to try and put a smile on their faces on what must be a tremendously difficult time for them, particularly around Christmas.
Sven Botman, who was interviewed at the hospital, said it was a ‘pleasure’ to ‘try to give them the best day of their lives’ while Sean Longstaff stated it was a ‘time of the year that we as players look forward to’.
Katie Barker, in attendance from the women’s team, was honoured to take part in such a ‘special’ day for the kids and described it as a ‘surreal’ experience for herself personally.
It is very clear to see the positive impact that the club is trying to have on the local community and it is a great sight to see after the years upon years of neglect under the previous regime.
