Howe confirms transfer strategy, rules out loan move & reveals good news on Alexander Isak

Eddie Howe has revealed that “nothing is imminent” on the transfer front, insisting our approach to incomings this month is injury-related.

It appears the club are taking stock, assessing the market and likely to make moves based on the injuries within the squad – not the extra cup games – with Jonjo Shelvey, Matt Targett, Emil Krafth and Paul Dummett currently sidelined.

Speaking to the press this morning, Howe also confirmed that Alexander Isak is back in training and “close” to a return, believing he will be a “massive player” and “like a new signing” this month.

As for outgoings, one Mag who will not be leaving is Elliot Anderson. The Geordie talent has been linked with a host of Championship sides in recent days, but the boss remains adamant the 20-year-old has a “valuable role” to play after a “number of niggles” have limited his involvement in recent months.

Here’s what Howe’s had to say on all of the above, starting with this comments on the transfer front…

Howe on the club’s approach to incomings this month:

“Things could change. We were never going to do early business. This time it’s a position where we’re taking stock, analysing day by day.

Nothing is imminent. Transfers are injury-related this time. FFP and need to strengthen go against one another.”

“I think what will dictate what we do transfer-wise will be the injury list, not so much the (extra cup) games. “We’re very keen to progress, we want the extra games. But as I say, the injury situation will be the deciding factor.”

Howe on Alexander Isak’s return to training:

“Let’s get through training today. I don’t want to put pressure on him.

He has trained with the team. We are pleased with his progress. Let’s wait and see.

“If and when we do get Alex back, it will be a huge lift. It will be like a new signing for us. Massive player, huge ability, so we’re very keen to get him back. He’s close and he’s training.”

Howe on talk of a loan move for Elliot Anderson:

“He’s very valued by us. He’s had a number of niggles over the last couple of months which have prevented him being involved more.

He’s got a valuable role to play with us between now and the end season – we certainly won’t be loaning him anywhere.”
