EXCLUSIVE: Sven Botman agent link could boost Newcastle’s pursuit of Eredivisie star

Newcastle United will have a ‘big advantage’ on rival bidders this month should they step up their interest in Ajax’s Edson Alvarez.

Speaking exclusively to NUFC Blog, Jacque Talbot – a correspondent at Football Transfers – has revealed that the Mexican midfielder shares the same agent as Magpies defender Sven Botman.

This is not common knowledge, but it’s thought both players are looked after by the same Amsterdam-based company, Muy Manero.

Talbot adds that we’ve been watching the tough-tackling 25-year-old over the past 12 months, with this coming after The Athletic named him as one of five midfielders who’ve been scouted regularly by the club’s recruitment team.

It’s no secret that Eddie Howe is on the lookout for a new No 6, so Alvarez’s situation may be one to watch – especially when his agent is likely to have received rave reviews from Botman on the NUFC boss, life on Tyneside and the feel-good factor within the Newcastle United dressing room.

Here’s what Jacque told us, revealing a link that could boost our hopes of landing the Eredivisie star:

“Edson Álvarez is an interesting one. He was heavily linked to Man United last season but with the mass exodus of talent that Ajax moved on at that time, nothing came of it.

“Newcastle have been watching him closely over the past 12 months and he certainly ticks a lot of boxes, being a combative central midfielder at a good age (25). But what could be key in all of this is the fact his agency is the same as Sven Botman’s – Muy Manero, a company based in Amsterdam.

“Though it says online that Alvarez is with a Mexican agency – PROMOFUT – I have confirmed that this is not the case and both players are looked after the same company, and in fact one man.

“This does not, of course, translate to a definite move but it does give Newcastle a big advantage in their were to make a play for him.”
