‘He looks incredible’ – Fans wowed by 16-year-old Geordie after solo goal & standout display at SJP

Newcastle United may have bowed out of the FA Youth Cup last night, but fans went home excited by what they saw from Geordie talent Lewis Miley.

The 16-year-old midfielder scored a superb solo goal in a 3-2 defeat to Arsenal for our U18s and was the standout player on the night.

The Guardian recently named him the best young talent on Tyneside and we’re starting to see why. Not only has he been training with the first-team and featuring in mid-season friendlies last month, the England U17 international helped the Young Lions to a 6-0 win over Germany last weekend.

Here’s what fans and journalists had to about the teenage sensation last night, followed by a clip of his brilliant run and finish at the Leazes End:

Have to say Newcastle have a real player in Lewis Miley. Has shown some genuine moments of class. A powerful runner, good close control and can pick a pass.’ – @MarkCarruthers_

Lewis Miley the standout performer. Head and shoulders above everybody else.‘ – @jordancronin_

Lewis Miley is clearly a yard or two ahead of the under 18’s, he looks incredible. Definitely need to find a loan for him or move him into the u23’s at minimum.’ – @JarstienToon

What a win. Great game. Newcastle were worthy opponents, thought Lewis Miley looked really promising in particular.” – @SionDeFreitas (Arsenal fan)

‘Lewis Miley, remember the name.’ – @thomashammond__

‘Yeah….I don’t think Lewis Miley spends very long in this U18s side. Looks some player for a 16-year-old.’@ASmithSJ

Speaking to NewcastleWorld after the game, the local lad had this to say:

“There were positives to take from the game. For myself, scoring a goal at St James Park was a great feeling. I thought we stuck with them in the game but they’ve scored in the last couple of minutes. Sticking with them all game was a real positive but it was disappointing to concede late.

“Experiences like that, playing in front of supporters, it’s just a great feeling for us all. The game was a great learning curve for us but we now have to learn from it, get back to training and just move on.”
