Newcastle set to sanction ’11th hour’ loan move once Mag signs new contract – Report

According to The Mail, Loris Karius is set to extend his contract with Newcastle – meaning Karl Darlow will be allowed to leave on loan later this month if our goalkeepers avoid any injuries.

The former Liverpool man signed a short-term deal until 31st December back in September, arriving after a sudden injury to Darlow left us in need of emergency cover following Martin Dubravka’s loan move to Manchester United.

It was unclear whether Karius would remain at the club beyond January now a cup-tied Dubravka has returned from his spell at Old Trafford, but it seems the German will be kept as our third choice for the remainder of the season.

The 29-year-old has not made an official appearance for us yet – although he did put in an impressive performance in our friendly against Al Hilal last month.

A new deal for Karius hasn’t been finalised as of yet, but it’s thought all parties are close to an agreement. If and when that extension is sorted, Newcastle will allow Darlow to leave on loan the remainder of the season – although it’ll be an ’11th hour’ move given a cup-tied Dubravka leaves us an injury away from issues in that department.

Darlow has appeared just once this season and played only eight times last term, so it’s easy to see why the former Nottingham Forest man is eager for game time following Pope’s superb form and Dubravka’s return.
