Alan Shearer has urged Newcastle to invest in the forward line following Chris Wood’s exit, believing we should also find someone who can ‘unlock that door’ after another 0-0 against Crystal Palace.
We dominated the game at Selhurst park, but it would be difficult to say we deserved to win considering we lacked cutting edge and created a lack of big chances.
While our defence has been outstanding, our attack has come to a bit of a standstill with just one goal in our last four league games and the Toon legend believes we need someone with ‘that little bit of spark’ to get us over the line.
Heading into our semi-final on Tuesday, we will hopefully have enough to overcome Southampton, but as Shearer has suggested, we need to quickly figure out how to break down teams that ‘sit that little bit deeper’.
Speaking to Premier League Productions after Saturday’s stalemate, here’s what Shearer had to say on our transfer strategy:
“I think with Chris Wood going to Nottingham Forest, then I am sure that will be an area the manager will try to get somebody in, I am sure.
“If one of their forwards, Isak or Wilson were to get injured, then they would be very light in that department.
“Also that little bit of extra spark. That little bit of creativity, so when teams do sit that little bit deeper and frustrate Newcastle, then you have someone to unlock that door.”
We are still in a very healthy position in the league, particularly after Man United lost to Arsenal, but it would be great to have another attacker come through the door to add something different to the squad.
