Sky Sports: Two medicals now done as Newcastle prepare to announce one in, one out

Newcastle United look set to announce at least one incoming and one outgoing on deadline day, as Sky Sports have confirmed that Harrison Ashby and Jonjo Shelvey have both passed medicals.

Ashby was on Tyneside yesterday to complete the formalities and undergo medical checks after the club agreed a £3m deal with West Ham on Sunday.

The 21-year-old right-back comes in to compete with and learn from the experienced Kieran Trippier, but one player who we won’t see in a black and white shirt again is Jonjo Shelvey.

The midfielder was at the City Ground on Monday to complete his medical and looks set to sign a two-and-a-half year deal with the Reds, ending a seven year stint at St James’ Park.

So, two deals imminent and a midfielder wanted, with Conor Gallagher still a possibility – albeit a faint one – if Chelsea sign Enzo Fernandez and agree to do business with a top four rival; something they’ve been reluctant to do since the takeover.

Elsewhere, Karl Darlow is expected to join Hull City on loan, while fringe men Ryan Fraser, Matt Ritchie and Jamal Lewis could yet leave if suitable offers arrive.

Here’s confirmation on Ashby and Shelvey from Sky Sports duo Dharmesh Sheth and Keith Downie:

  1. Maddison is the one we need now for the push, the young Chelsea lad is good but not a complete package yet. Hwtl
