Rafa Benitez reveals what Anthony Gordon is really like – Telling quotes after £40m move from Everton

Rafa Benitez is tipping Anthony Gordon to succeed at St James’ Park, revealing some important traits that could allow him to thrive on Tyneside.

After working with the 21-year-old during his time at Goodison Park last season, the Spaniard has praised his “spirit” and positive attitude, revealing how he was always keen to learn, a good listener and willing to do “extra work” on the training ground.

Mix this with his raw ability, you can see why Eddie Howe was attracted to the winger, as talent only goes so far in football if a player isn’t willing to improve and put in the hard yards.

Gordon completed a £40m move to St James’ Park last weekend and was given a warm welcome before Tuesday’s semi-final win over Southampton. It remains to be seen if he’s fit, but he could well make his debut in Saturday’s meeting with West Ham.
